1. Who we are

EzyCite ("we", "us") is a free academic research tool available at ezycite.vercel.app, including the EzyCite Google Docs add-on. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.

2. Data we collect

  • Account data — when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture. We use this only to identify your account.
  • Library data — papers you save, collections you create, and notes you write are stored so you can access them across devices.
  • API tokens — tokens you generate for the Google Docs add-on are stored only as SHA-256 hashes. We never store the raw token.
  • Usage data — basic analytics (page views, searches) to improve the product.

3. Google Docs add-on

The EzyCite add-on for Google Docs requests only the minimum permissions it needs:

  • Current document access (documents.currentonly) — to insert citations and bibliographies into the document you are actively editing. We never access your other documents.
  • External requests — to fetch your saved papers from ezycite.vercel.app using your API token. The add-on communicates only with our own servers.

The content of your documents is never sent to our servers, stored, or shared. Citation state (which papers you cited) is stored in the document's own properties within Google's infrastructure.

4. What we don't do

  • We do not sell your data to anyone.
  • We do not read or store the contents of your Google Docs.
  • We do not share personal data with third parties, except as required to operate the service (hosting, database).

5. Data storage and security

Data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure (Vercel and Neon PostgreSQL). All traffic is encrypted with HTTPS. API tokens are hashed with SHA-256 before storage.

6. Data deletion

You can revoke API tokens at any time from Settings. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the email below and we will remove it within 30 days.

7. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
